In Southside Virginia, it is sometimes assumed that with a name like Reynolds, one might come from a background of means. When folks hear that name mentioned, they often think about R.J. Reynolds Tobacco or the Reynolds Homestead in Patrick County. It is true that Roscoe knows a thing or two about growing tobacco, but he had to learn it the hard way.
Roscoe, born and raised in Martinsville, lost his father in an automobile accident when he was quite young. As a boy growing up, he would leave his city home and go to his grandparent's tobacco farm, in Franklin County, where he not only learned the value of hard work but also the entire process of raising tobacco.
Having worked his way through Duke University and the Washington and Lee School of Law, Roscoe began his years of public service as an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney followed by 18 years as the Commonwealth's Attorney of Henry County. He served in the House of Delegates from 1986-96 and has served in the State Senate since 1997. Senator Reynolds currently serves on the following committees, Agriculture, Conservation and Natural Resources, Courts of Justice, Finance and Local Government.
Roscoe has been married for 40 years to his wife Linda, who also has strong ties to our area. They have two grown children, two grandchildren, as well as their beloved dog Sebastian. They are also members of the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.
